POSITION: Technical Manager

FUNCTION: Operations

LOCATION: Morristown, TN



We have an exciting position available for a Technical Manager in our Morristown, Tennessee manufacturing facility.  This position will report to the Vice-President of Specialty Resins and Technology and will supervise 3 – 4 employees.

The Technical Manager provides broad technical, operations, process engineering, applications engineering and quality assurance support for the company’s Technical Products Division.

The duties and responsibilities for this position are as follows:

Technical Management

  • Leads and directs the work of others.
  • Process Development for all Divisional Areas, including close collaboration with contracted process engineering firms assigned to production line modifications and enhancement.
  • Product Development: The design and development of products and processes, and redesign of existing systems to fulfill the needs of customers.
  • Establish and maintain working technical communications with assigned Divisional customers.
  • Oversee and provide application guidelines, technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Promote our current product lines and help commercialize new product lines by overseeing and troubleshooting customer trials.
  • Responsible for investigating quality issues, root cause and corrective actions.
  • Researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and capacity of company products and competing products.

Quality Assurance and Systems

  • Establish and maintain appropriate quality systems and certifications for the Division.
  • Oversee and participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of quality metrics.
  • Mature, positive and responsible interactions with customers and suppliers in working through applications and quality issues.
  • Oversee and participates in the development and maintenance of quality control standards.
  • Oversees the evaluation of raw materials and finished products for quality and reliability.
  • Works with suppliers to improve quality of incoming materials.


  • Effective management of technical professionals
  • Technical degree and previous technical service experience is expected, with specific emphasis on composites and processing equipment.
  • 10 plus years’ experience in Operations/Technical/QC/QA environments.   
  • Must be able to interface well with others in a technical systems environment  
  • Good understanding & experience in advanced problem solving.
  • Good understanding of quality system concepts and tools. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to diagnose quality and process problems, and suggest solutions. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

Specialized Skills

  • ASQCQM desired.
  • Previous experience with composite processing a plus.
  • Strong written, verbal and computer skills. Must be computer proficient (Microsoft Office Suite). A proven ability to use these skills in creating and giving presentations is a plus.
  • Proficient in technical mathematics
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Ability to successfully interface with customers

Frequent travel, sometimes including weeks.  (25% - 33%)
